Mary (the Grecian Princess) had a little Lamb…….

I was invited to a glamorous evening this week and had a “what am I going to wear?” moment because it is Black Tie and franky, that dress code scares me…….

But then I remembered the little blue number I have been working on, so I pushed myself to finish it off.  The first of a whole series of upcycled ball gowns, I hope you are as excited about it as I am! Continue reading

Frocktober Day 31 – Going out with a BANG

Dear Diary,

Well I save the best for last and broke out my SHOT GUN WEDDING DREES for the occasion of THE END OF FROCKTOBER!!!

What a ride it has been!

It took 3 and a half hours to walk the main street of Merredin and I am thrilled to say that today alone, the town of Merredin raised $426!!!!!

I am so humbled by how amazing and generous the people in my little town are.  I am sure many of them have been questioning my sanity throughout the whole month, see the look on this lady’s face…….

Thank you so much Merredin Wheattbelt Mercury for following me through this crazy event

And a big thankyou to all who donated and saw me in the street and didn’t call the ‘looney van’ on me, This experience has made me grow, again, imagine what I can do now after stepping out of my comfort zone for the whole month.  How am I going to top this next year??? …..don’t be silly, of course I already have plans for next year – you ALL may be involved!!!!!

So, online we raised, together $740

And today alone, you all generously helped me raise $426

I am so amazed by you all!!

And I believe that all of us FROCKTOBIANS have surpassed the $250,000 mark all together, that is astounding!! Getting us closer to some better early detection for ovarian cancer and closer to eradicating this awful disease.

Tomorrow, some of the money will go to the cause too, so COME AND JOIN ME FOR LUNCH TOMORROW!!! details HERE, bring your friends and your kids (there is a lolly buffet!!! and so many awesome little shops set up just for you)

I did do a little vlog and I will put it up with tomorrows finale blog post with the grand total you awesome people have helped me raise!

Frocktober Day 27 – A mixed up, productive day

Dear Diary,

We achieved ALOT today, even after a sleep in!

Reticulation sorted, Master J helped with the Retic and mowed the lawns, backyard tidied, pool cleaned, flower seedlings planted, weeds pulled out (thankyou sheep for taking care of most of them) and we even got some inside tidying done – the toy room looked like the Tassie Devil had been through.  A spot of sewing was achieved too, today, I made a cute outfit for Miss D and cut out a ruffle tie top for Miss G (this top reminds me of a top my Mum made for me when I was little, I loved it and wanted to recreate the love of it with my girls)

We got a spot of outback netball in just before we jumped in the pool for the first time……

I wrote about this little dress once before, it reminds me of my sweet Grandad, the shirt is something like he used to wear, it has ducks on it, I made it into this cute little dress.  I have lots more shirts ready and waiting for me to get stuck into. You can read more about this dress here.

Now to sit back with a glass of wine and wait for my flowers to grow, and to ponder at how lucky I am to have a healthy, happy family (well, most of us, Hubby has health issues, but that is another story and maybe an MS charity event coming up) but, right now, it is about those suffering Ovarian cancer, so help me get behind them with a small donation here

Hope you had a great weekend!

Frocktober Day 18 – Watching the Whales

Dear Diary,

A pretty low key kind of day today, we stuck around the area we were situated and checked out the lighthouse and went for a stroll to see if we could spot some whales – Hubby saw them all and when he tried to show me where, they hid from me!

Image

We tried our luck over at Bunker Bay and they were swarming (do whales swarm?), a beautiful sight

Image

Se the whale?

They put on a show for us while we had lunch at the Beach Cafe, there were so many and all were breaching and playing around, it was magic to watch.

I think I chose my frock well for today, very nautical!

I made this one from a vintage red blouse, I lopped off the sleeves and made a navy cotton drill skirt with a wide band and attached it to the blouse – my fab hat makes this outfit, don’t you think?

Last day today, get to see the kids tomorrow – yay!!

I hope you enjoyed your holiday with my Hubby and myself, I have been given many a pep talk by him about taking on too much etc and feel ready to go home and relax into a more stress free life and also the excitement of organising the FABULOUS FROCKTOBER LUNCHEON.

I still have many more frocks to dust off for the next few weeks so keep those donations coming

Frocktober Day 11 – Stranded…….

Dear Diary,

Believe it or not, this kind of stuff happens to me quite a lot!!

We attempted a trip to town to stock up on a few things for the kids and Mum and Dad while we are away and wouldn’t you know it…..we ran out of fuel!!

Image

Before you start ‘tsk, tsking’, I am still getting used to my fuel gauge after having the fuel pump replaced (it started working backwards, so full is empty and empty is full, and then just started to be random – quite a lot like me I guess haha) I was informed that I had a 75 litre tank so I have worked out a system to keep tabs on how much I have used – it turns out my car has a 70 litre tank, DOH!

So you can see that it wasn’t entirely my fault hahahaha

Anyways……I was just able to get signal on my phone and called good ole Mum (another miracle, I often forget to take my phone anywhere), but while we waited, we watched in awe at the monumental amount of wind turbines we drive past most days at Collgar Wind Farm – there are over 100 of them and they are quite a sight – I do take notice of them every time I drive by but we got a good look at them today.

Yay for Mum!! We have fuel!!

I can’t be bothered going to town now – lets go home and watch a movie!

Mum offered to bring out some milk etc. tomorrow when they come to settle in for the week with the kids – all is good, it’s just a shame that no one got to see this dress – it is my favourite jumper which was coming unraveled and a vintage dress in which I wasn’t fond of the top part of it, so I merged them together to make one fab dress which will be living in my ‘most worn’ part of the wardrobe I think!

Do you often have things like this happen to you? or is it just me?

Day 4 Frocktober – A lovely day for a stroll……

Dear Diary,

Miss D and I decided to take a stroll today, all be it at the back of the farm, so we jumped in the car and took off to my favourite place where it is so peaceful and stress free.

Dressed up in our Frocktober best – Twiggy dress from

https://obsessivecreativedesign.wordpress.com/2013/08/12/the-secrets-of-the-forest-with-a-lace-addiction/

and a little upcycled number called KELLY (which Miss D is rocking) made from a ladies lace top and a mans business shirt, we set off to check how the crops are growing, and I must say, they are looking great!

So much better than the miserable year we all had last year, the weather has really been on our side, so hopefully that makes for some very happy farmers out here by the end of harvest!

Image

Image

It’s so beautiful out here, I am so grateful of our decision to come back home to the country after some tough years away.

It is so peaceful and I love watching all the seasons fly by, from this time of year – watching the crops grow (sometimes you can even hear them grow, it is so quiet), to the bustle of harvest and all of the hard working harvesters out there when the weather is warm and balmy.  My favourite time of year would have to be seeding time though, the smell of freshly turned earth and the intense colours of bright blue sky, green trees and rich brown fertile land.  I swear, my eyes have been turned on since coming home and I see things so much more brightly and these walks intensify it more when you have time to breath it all in (that is until the flies get too bad and you breath them in too, only a small hazard which is really quite insignificant to me in the scale of things)

Image

Better get home and get some dinner on, the older kids can come next time, get them off their butts and enjoying the sunshine.  Now to get this gate closed so the sheep don’t have a “field day” in here…..

Don’t forget about donating while we are feeling relaxed and calm to remember that while we are living quite a blessed life, there are others suffering and we can all do something, no matter how small, to make others lives easier.

Bring in Spring!

Well, it has been a fabulous weekend for weather!! (I only hope that it repeats itself for next weekend….PHOTOSHOOT!!)
So these are some outfits I put together some time ago (before I remembered to take photos before I cut into clothes) and since Spring is just around the corner, I thought it good timing…

A basic girls t-shirt makes up this outfit which I heavily embellished with recycled fabric roses and ribbon (I really enjoyed doing the embellishing, – I think sitting and hand stitching is equivalent to the meditative state that knitters and crocheters get in to – something I have not mastered and admire those who do create beautiful pieces)

The skirts are made from curtains and curtain lace – simple

And the girls did a great job of modelling again …..awww look how little Miss D is……
I really have to get Master J out for a few photos, just because (we are getting plenty of the girls)…..as much as he aims to please us, I think asking him to model girls clothing is crossing the line.

pssssttt…..Be sure to keep an eye out for a mini ‘Girls Collection’ to go with the ‘Addicted to Lace’ collection coming soon

Giving a classy dress a bit of FUNK!!

I came across this dress on one of my Op Shop adventures and had to have it!!

It was my style of dress in perfect new condition for $5.99 – how could I pass that up?

BUT….it was a size 14 – two sizes too big for me, but I am always on the look out for items to upcycle so I took it, with an idea of what I was going to do to it, and was going to make it something special for a lucky lady in which it would fit ‘like a glove’

This is what I had to start with after I rummaged through my ‘clothes mountain’…. Continue reading

A perfect little ‘Librarian’ out fit

I was asked to create something special for a sweet little 2 year old and the first thing that came to mind was this awesome butterfly ladies skirt I had lying on top of my ‘clothes mountain’. I loved the fabric but didn’t really have a plan for its ‘rebirth’, this was the perfect opportunity to make it SHINE!

I loved the black border of it, so left it on and made a simple little skirt that was just made for twirling in!

little librarian before

before clothes….

I knew I had a striped shirt which would go nicely with the muted colours of the skirt fabric, so I got cutting and teamed it up with black sleeves from another top and some of the butterfly fabric as a ‘bib’ feature and ruffle.

And there you have it!!
A sweet little out fit!!
Now for a model to show off these threads……
