Norma Jean

While wearing this little number, there is no cubic zirconia in sight, it is Diamonds all the way!!

I created this one with Marilyn in mind, a one shoulder full lace swing dress which can be worn with or without the plaited fabric belt.

I will be rocking this one at the Art Exhibition in my town on Friday night as my two Dowerin Field day Ag Art award dresses, the 2012 and 2013 entries will be featured there.

This one is in one of my favourite colours but yours could be any colour you wish.

It features the same colour lace as the satin lining for a colour block effect, a brooch on the shoulder and a rhinestone belt clasp on the plaited belt.

Seeing it in these photos with this backdrop kind of reminds me of a Grecian mermaid coming ashore to grace us with her beauty…….

Anyway, I would love to know what you think of NORMA JEAN and also would love to make you one….what colour you would choose??

Fabulous Capes!!

Well, Saturday night had me out and about in Perth for the opening of my Aunty’s new salon Medousa, Hair Beauty Body, and I even got to showcase some of my collection while there thanks to the help of some amazing models Ashlee, Tarryn and Adelle.  But I am to realize that whilst the days are becoming lovely, the nights are still a bit nippy and thought it perfect timing to show off my beautiful capes (for which I do not have names for yet, but I am teaming up with Ms Mystery Case for a naming competition very soon so keep an eye out for that!!)

There is nothing like a cape for giving a bit of extra warmth and a lot of style!!

Cape 1

A funky, heavy cape for those chilly nights, Oriental inspired fully lined with an oriental collar, zip up front and tie around the waist to still show off your figure by creating a waist.

Made in a heavy upholstery fabric in your choice of colour.  I love this cape with a pair of jeans!!

(the necklace in these shots is by Decadent Jewels, be sure to check them out, you will not be disappointed)

classic vintage lines with a contrast piping and large self cover buttons.  Made from heavy upholstery fabric, it is sure to cut the wind on those chilly nights.  Great with jeans and a glamorous way to cover up on those evenings out.

Comes in your choice of colour.

The results of the AG ART AWARDS and the whole story!!

Well another competition done and dusted with a lot of feedback about my design and although I didn’t win the ultimate prize and came third in my category, I walk away a winner in my eyes and of the eyes of the people around me considering I made such an impact to the general public that I took out

There are a few categories to the competition
Avant Garde
Under 21
People’s choice
It went as I thought it may, when I started this dress I had 2 designs in my head, and knowing that ‘Shot Gun Wedding’ was a more ‘traditional’ entry, I took the risk of entering it into the Avant Garde section to win the big prize hehe, who wouldn’t, it is a trip to NZ to compete in the field days over there.
And although I didn’t win, the judges had some words for me through one of the organizers of the competition, I was told that they were super impressed with the design, especially the jewellery but felt it was more a ‘traditional entry’, so who knows what the outcome would have been if I had have forgone the chance of winning a trip!
I can’t be disappointed though, The people’s choice is a great honor and I have so much support from all of you, it is quite overwhelming and my talent is getting noticed more each day through things like this.
BRING ON NEXT YEAR!! (you should see the inside of my head right now hehe)
Here is my design  on the runway…
Image   1237006_10201170082467670_120276503_n
Even before I got to see the runway show and was browsing the lifestyle pavilion, looking at all that WA has to offer, including amazing kitchen gadgets, beautiful skin care, ‘out of this world’ handmade furniture, exceptional Australian made dolls (which I know 4 little girls will get from Nanna, you are so lucky my 2 nieces and my 2 daughters – I WANT ONE!) and soooo much more that I think a whole 2 or more blog posts should be dedicated to the Dowerin Field Days and a big urge to anybody who hasn’t been to come along next year to see what all of the fuss is, this year was a record breaker for the amount of exhibitors!
But, back to what I was saying hehe, I met a couple selling ARBONNE cosmetics, a vegan all natural skin care, but while I was talking to them I was telling them about the dress and they had seen it the night before and were amazed by it and asked me to talk to them later about possibly putting it down the runway at the next Wedding Expo they are a part of organising……
You haven’t seen the last of it!!!!
It will also be featured at the art exhibition in our home town along with last years dress.
Avant Garde winner Jaime Croeser
runner-up Annie Hooper
runner-up Annie Hooper
Third Me (Shown without hoop skirt here – I don’t know why)
Traditional winner Annie Hooper                                                   Runner up Patsy Metcalf
Third Leanne Hamilton
I have to say, this competition is a great thing to have in our state and the entries were a little sparse compared to last years, so I am urging you and anyone you know to take the plunge and have a go, it is a lot of fun and great prizes involved and lets face it, I would rather have more competition than not have the competition at all.
You will be hearing more from me about this working up to next years AG ART AWARDS as I would love to keep this great opportunity going. More information here.
So there you have it, it wasn’t overall winner but I am winning with the public!! and that is more than what I bargained for I have a few more jobs for this collection of ‘nuts and bolts’ (and more) as well as my first years entry, more details on where you can see them in the near future.
Until my next crazy adventure – which won’t be too far away, I promise you – don’t forget to tune in for the next chapter in “The Secrets of the Forest (with a lace addiction)”
Love Kirsty

The next chapter in the story of the forest is the one involving Twiggy, Gail and Bonnie, the lovely lace sisters.

I made this one and showed the person who taught me all of my sewing skills – my Mum – and she fell in love with it!

It isn’t something she is used to wearing and certainly does not wear anything that draws attention to her waist, but when she put it on OMG, so flattering on her, and the tie belt gave a waist to her apple shape.

So this one is named after my Mum. She even wore it in a fashion parade at a recent event for me – very much out of her comfort zone – she did a great job!!

Spaghetti straps, a soft jersey lining and a contrast lace overlay, comes with a tie belt.

This dress is styled up with a Sistaco ‘Zhen – Gold Chinese Coin stunning necklace and a Carrie Bradshaw head piece (or crown if you will) made by me.

As you may have guessed, I am a vintage girl through and through and there are many eras of vintage in this collection, also with a hint of oriental – another passion of mine.
The inspiration came from retro ’80’s glam, right back to art deco chic.
And how impressive is the doll inspired hair and make up, fantastic modelling and Awesome photography from the most wonderful team of experts and friends I have ever worked with, everything all works together so beautifully that when we were shooting this, I was in tears, felt immense pride of all involved and so privileged to be a part of it.

So……. if you like what you see, and would love one of these pieces for yourself, then here is how ordering will go…..
These are my base designs, my concept is ‘every girl deserves a bit of individuality without having to pay a hefty price’, so when you choose your design, you will then work with me to choose colour, fabric and individual touches to end up with your very own original design, or if you like, you can ‘let me loose’ on you design and use my creative ‘juices’ to create something for you. All I will need is you size and measurements and we are good to go!
Because I am a ‘country chick’ , I will need time to gather your fabrics from the city, and as some pieces have an upcycled factor, I will need to hunt for the perfect pieces for your design too, therefore a few weeks will need to be allowed for this as well as making it up, I will be in contact with you constantly to let you know how things are coming along.

Over the next few weeks I will be giving you a detailed look at each design including the price, so stay glued to my blog if you want more information for a particular piece you have fallen in love with.

There you have it….many, many months of hard work, all right here in front of you!
Do you like what you see??

A perfect little ‘Librarian’ out fit

I was asked to create something special for a sweet little 2 year old and the first thing that came to mind was this awesome butterfly ladies skirt I had lying on top of my ‘clothes mountain’. I loved the fabric but didn’t really have a plan for its ‘rebirth’, this was the perfect opportunity to make it SHINE!

I loved the black border of it, so left it on and made a simple little skirt that was just made for twirling in!

little librarian before

before clothes….

I knew I had a striped shirt which would go nicely with the muted colours of the skirt fabric, so I got cutting and teamed it up with black sleeves from another top and some of the butterfly fabric as a ‘bib’ feature and ruffle.

And there you have it!!
A sweet little out fit!!
Now for a model to show off these threads……
